What is SaaS software?

SaaS stands for “Software as a Service” and describes a model in which software applications are provided and used over the Internet. SaaS software is applications that are hosted and maintained by a provider. Users can access them over the Internet, usually through a web browser.

Unlike traditional software licenses, where the software is installed on the user's computers and runs locally, SaaS software is delivered over a cloud infrastructure. Users log in with their login details and only need an internet connection and a device such as a computer, tablet or smartphone.
