What is SaaS software?
SaaS stands for “Software as a Service” and describes a model in which software applications are provided and used over the Internet. SaaS software is applications that are hosted and maintained by a provider. Users can access them over the Internet, usually through a web browser.
Unlike traditional software licenses, where the software is installed on the user's computers and runs locally, SaaS software is delivered over a cloud infrastructure. Users log in with their login details and only need an internet connection and a device such as a computer, tablet or smartphone.
SaaS software offers various benefits including:
- Easy Scalability: Users can easily access additional features or resources when needed as the software is hosted in the cloud.
- Cost-effectiveness: Businesses can often use SaaS software through a subscription model, which is more cost-effective and does not require a large upfront investment.
- Automatic updates and maintenance: The provider is responsible for maintaining, updating and security of the software, reducing the workload for internal IT teams.
- Flexibility: Users can access the application from any location and device, promoting flexibility and mobility.
